Bio

Joseph Thomas was born and raised in Detroit in the 1960’s–an exciting time for the automotive industry. His father, uncles and cousins worked in the auto factories and drove some of the finest cars the Big Three produced. His love for cars was created and nurtured in him from an early age.  In pursuit of his passion, Joe has owned many cars over the years, including his first car–a 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner–and nine Corvettes, with hopefully more to come.

Joe and his wife were married Labor Day weekend of 1994 and almost spent their honeymoon at the grand opening of the National Corvette Museum. Although that didn’t occur, he and his family have attended numerous events at the Museum over the years. Joe is a member of Corvette Club of Michigan, which is hosted by Les Stanford Chevrolet in Dearborn, Michigan and is one of the original clubs to form the National Council of Corvette Clubs. He served as the club’s National Corvette Museum Ambassador from 2004 to 2014 and was part of the inaugural group of Master Ambassadors to the NCM. Joseph became a Lifetime Member of the National Corvette Museum in 2001, which was the culmination of having been an Individual and Family Member. His involvement with the Museum led to his service on its Board of Directors from 2010 to 2014. Two of Joseph’s proudest achievements while being on the Board of Directors for the NCM were the building of the Motorsports Park and the reconstruction of the NCM after the sinkhole incident. Joe is also a member of the Michigan Chapter of the National Corvette Restorers Society.

Joseph retired from the Michigan State Police in 2018 as a Post Commander after 31 years of service. He continues to serve his community in his current employment at the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, his membership in the Knights of Columbus and as a member and Past President for the Epsilon Tau Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. in Lansing, Michigan. In his free time, he enjoys participating in NCM events, Corvette club events, attending the Woodward Dream Cruise and traveling to regional Corvette events with friends.
