About

Kimball Green

A two-time graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Kimball Green is currently the Maintenance and Engineering Manager for the Body Shop Assembly Area and the Performance Build Engine Assembly Center at the General Motors Bowling Green Assembly Plant (BGA), home of the world class Chevrolet Corvette. He oversees the day-to-day maintenance responsibilities in those two areas with his team of engineers, supervisors, and skilled tradesmen across three operating shifts.  He is president of the BGA chapter of the General Motors African Ancestry Network (GMAAN), an employee resource group for individuals with African ancestry.

Kimball has worked for General Motors for 24 years, with almost 20 of those years spent in Bowling Green, where he has seen many Corvette milestones firsthand and helped usher in many of the manufacturing changes we see today across the factory.

In his previous assignment, he was the Plant Mechanical Engineer where he took on lead launch roles in major facility upgrades from 2015 to 2021. Some major initiatives included the $400M addition of the new Paint Shop and Body Shop areas and the $25M General Assembly major conveyance renovations. These contributions were critical to the production of the award winning eighth generation Corvette.

Prior to his launch role, Kimball was the Plant Facilities Engineer where he was project manager for numerous projects across the various departments and the entire site. As his career has advanced, he has taken great pride in being able to walk throughout the facility and see the impact his work has had on GM’s iconic vehicle that has brought joy to enthusiasts across the country and beyond. Kimball’s influence can be seen in the design, installation, and upkeep of most of the manufacturing equipment used daily for Corvette assembly.

In his time away from work, Kimball’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging extends to his service in the Bowling Green community. Since 2012, Kimball has served in the international community where he and his family have supported and empowered refugee families from countries such as Tanzania, Congo, Burma, Iraq, and Nepal. He has also worked diligently through his church and other community programs to assist individuals from refugee backgrounds to transition into and thrive in the Bowling Green community. His strong presence in the community has allowed him the honor of developing relationships that have had life-long impacts on him and those he serves. From teaching home upkeep and repair skills, to supporting new Americans with voting and citizenship, Kimball does not turn away an opportunity to empower others.

He serves as a STEM advocate in Bowling Green where he has given many talks to students of all ages about careers in the STEM field and the importance of higher education. He is also a mentor for male college students of color at Western Kentucky University. Kimball has presented to high school educators from across the state on the importance of their role in the STEM fields and was the Lego Robotics team co-founder and coach for many years at Cumberland Trace Elementary School. He has served on the Advisory Board for the Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED) at his alma mater, Virginia Tech, a program which he benefited from during his time in Blacksburg while securing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mechanical Engineering.

Kimball is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and above all, he is loving husband of almost 24 years to his wife Kimberly and proud father of three wonderful children.
